KRESCENT (Kidney Research Scientist Core Education and Training Program 2.0)

The Kidney Research Scientist Core Education and National Training program (KRESCENT) is a research initiative founded by The Kidney Foundation, the Canadian Society of Nephrology (CSN), and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)-Institute of Nutrition, Metabolism and Diabetes (INMD). Launched in 2005 and sustained through the collaboration of multiple partners, KRESCENT aims to train more kidney researchers and scientists, and to build kidney research capacity in Canada.  KRESCENT garnered additional supported in 2022 through the CIHR-INMD Health Research Training Program Grant program. KRESCENT supports early career scientists and students in the field of kidney research; facilitates collaboration between and across disciplines; emphasizes the importance of patient engagement and cultural competency/safety training and works to ensure equity and diversity, inclusion, and access principles in kidney research. The KRESCENT program is delivered in multiple formats: in person meetings focusing on both knowledge acquisition and skill development, online exercises and workshops covering the knowledge application and integration modules, transdisciplinary research exercises in which participants can develop their learning and formalized mentorship opportunities.
