Other | Canada – Global

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) is the government agency responsible for investing in health research across the country. CIHR, created in 2000 under the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Act, is an independent agency reporting to Parliament through the Minister of Health. Composed of 13 Institutes, CIHR supports discoveries and initiatives that contribute to improving Canada’s health care system and have a significant impact on the health of Canadians. CIHR fulfills its mandate by funding open and prioritized research, building research capacity among future generations of researchers and in underdeveloped areas, and promoting the transfer and application of knowledge into policies and practices that improve the health care system and the health of Canadians.
